Dear Newsletter Subscriber,
Greetings to all! Summary of what is included in this issue of the Newsletter:

After burning 3 Halogen lamps and getting one blasted, we released the first two sections of our Linux Training. The first one is a short introduction. In the second one, we demonstrate Fedora 7 desktop and some applications. While being an overview, here's a list of applications we touched upon:
- Web browsing - Firefox
- Word processing, spreadsheet and presentation creation - OpenOffice.org
- Email sending/receiving - Evolution
- Chatting - Pidgin (Using Yahoo account)
- Media players - MPlayer
- Software development - Glade, Java development with Eclipse (Writing Hello World!)
- Games
- Calculator
- Dictionary
- Graphics editing - Gimp (Creating an animated GIF)
- Network protocol analyzer - Wireshark (Capturing web traffic)
- Project management - Planner
- Firewire (IEEE1394) video capturing and non linear video editing - Kino
- Advanced non linear video editing - Cinellera
- Bluetooth file sharing - How to share a photo in the mobile phone?
- File browsing
- Terminal windows
- System monitor
- Tray bar icons
- User preferences
- System administration tools
Yes, we really "did" animated GIF creation, bluetooth file sharing, network protocol analyzing (web traffic), writing the "Hello World! " program using the world famous Eclipse development platform among many other things.
While the file size is large, the second video came to be better than we expected. If you download and look at it, you will surely be inspired. When "Free and Open Source Software" is there, do you still want to pay for OSs?
Send us some feedback (see the bottom of this page to send your comments). We really appreciate it! Let us also know about your download experience, presently we face with some bandwidth issues. Be patient and download all the videos and share with all others. Host them in your intranets or the Internet. To download, go to the same training details page.
Pass the information of this free Linux training (http://www.swview.org/trainings/details/linux) to all of your friends, families, students, workplace colleagues,... We have no doubt, they will really appreciate you.
We at Software View talk about free (freedom) Linux and also free (no price) Linux!

A short write up by Kamal appeared in the August 1st issue of weekly newsletter of the world's most famous Linux magazine. Playing a fully software keyboard has never been this easy. More on this is available here: http://www.swview.org/node/55

Interested in participating for any of our trainings? Just go to the corresponding page and request it. Until you request, we will not schedule a single training. Why is this done?
A) We give you what you want, not what we want.
B) Since we are just starting our operations, we expect slow progress and awareness of our business. On demand scheduling reduces the risk we face.
Kindly note that we might not be able to schedule trainings immediately due to this gradually progressing startup time. But we will not keep you waiting indefinitely. We might decide to deliver trainings even for a single person!

Let's learn more. We would like you to discuss about the concept of "Empowered Employees". It's about workplace culture, the way you work and the norms you follow. Read the page at http://www.swview.org/node/47 and comment on that page.
All of you can participate. We don't have sex, age, occupation, title,... boundaries. We invite comments from both laymen and experts. You can even type "Ela kiri adahasakne meka!"
.
Let's improve ourselves!

Wonder why we offered the Linux training free of charge? Intension was not just for advertising. While we have to "exist" with courses offered for fee, we are committed to boost knowledge capacity of Sri Lanka. We don't just say, we do and demonstrate. We want you to turn the knowledge into value. Free Linux training is just one step. With your help, we will lead a revolution.
That's it for this week. I might go to the zoo with my relatives to meet some more relatives during the weekend
. Until we meet again, enjoy free and free Linux!
